we love you and miss you

my grandpa harker passed away this last week unexpectantly. he had been mildly sick for the past few months but then had an unexpected stroke and heart attack during the night. we miss him dearly but we are glad that he has returned to our loving Heavenly Father. i am comforted to know that he has reunited with his son, my dad, and other family members that have passed before him.

we were fortunate enough to make the trip to las vegas for his funeral service. my sister and i were able to speak and share some memories of our grandpa. i spoke of the many times we were able to visit him and how he always let us know how proud he was of me. i also spoke of how he would always type a letter to me and include it in my christmas and birthday cards. i shared excerpts from a letter that was particularly comforting to me as he bore his testimony of the gospel although he was not an active member. after the funeral service we traveled to the verteran's memorial cemetery and dan was able to dedicate his final resting place. it rained the whole way there but then when we were ready to pray it stopped raining and became very peaceful. dan mentioned how the adversary would try to stop us from going to dedicate his grave and the rain might have deterred us, but we went anyway and it worked out great.

i am so grateful for the gospel and the knowledge of life after death. it brings me great comfort in my times of sorrow and grief. the gospel also offers me hope in knowing that i will see my family again.

What an eternal moment it was to be present at the funeral of my father in law and to dwell on the blessing that these were MY children speaking not only of grandpa Harker but of their Dad, what a legacy! Their prayers, comments and dedication of the grave were all from the heart of young people who are the uprising leaders of this church and nation.
