soccer

logan started a little soccer league this fall with the local parks and rec department. so far he loves it. he is pretty fast on the field and alot tougher than most the other kids-dan likes to credit that to their frequent wrestling matches. i can't wait to see what he learns and how he progresses throughout the season.

ouch

allison is constantly bouncing around where ever she goes. she is skipping, running, always on the go. her energy often turns into injuries. i'm not exactly sure what happened this time because i was in the kitchen making lunch. i think she may have fallen off the couch somehow. all i know is there was a lot of blood which always makes it seem worse than it is.
she had a fat lip for a couple days and bruises for a week or two. not too long after this injury she was running and tripped and fell into a door frame. she had a big goose egg on her forehead with a line down the middle from the corner of the door frame. is has been about two months and she still has a raised ridge on her bone. the doctor said that will take a while to heal.
poor girl....

it has been nine years since my dad passed away. i can't believe it has been that long. i miss him everyday and think about him often. we went to the cemetery to visit his grave. we went on a sunday afternoon. it was actually my birthday which was kind of bitter-sweet.
somebody was a little grumpy because they fell asleep on the way there. the other half was super excited and ready to go!
dan usually takes the kids on a walk and lets me have a little time to myself to reflect on things. fortunately while they were gone dan happened to find two lollipops in his pocket so logan perked right up.
i love when logan asks me about my dad. he asks me what he was like and is understanding that he is his grandpa. he loves to look at pictures of him. logan is getting to the age where he understands a little bit about life and death (although i don't think he realizes how permanent death is). we have had some very tender conversations about the plan of salvation and how we will see my dad again. i am grateful for these experiences and also for the knowledge that the gospel brings.

dentist

the kids had their six month dental check-up. logan did great as usual and allison had her first time on the chair. she didn't want to lay down at first but when she got her pretty glasses and got to hold the suction tool she warmed up.
she didn't mind the hygienist too much but when the dr. came in she got super nervous. i think she was nervous because he was a male. none the less, it is progress and going to the dentist isn't quite so scary!

logans first day of preschool

logan was so excited for his first day of preschool. this is his second year at this preschool and he just loves it. he is in the pre-k class and goes three days a week. allison would very much like to be going with him.

camping

we went camping at munds park near flagstaff in july. we spent two days in oak creek canyon. it. was. gorgeous. i didn't even feel like we were in arizona. logan was so excited to go fishing. the first day we didn't have very much luck because it was a weekend day and was very busy. but the second day we had success!
this kid would cast his line, reel it in, and cast it again over and over. we tried to direct him where to cast and to leave it out there for a while but he was determined to do his own thing. well apparently the kid knows what he is doing because he caught over four fish all by himself!

allison also tried her hand at fishing...after she woke up from her cat nap in the car.

on one of the other days we went to a new place called bearizona. it was still under construction but had a walk through area with baby animals like foxes and bears and then a drive through part with bears, and bison, and big horn sheep. the drive through with the bears was the best part. there were bears everywhere and they would walk right by your car.

swim lessons

both the kids did swim lessons this summer. logan was great and jumped right in. the swim lessons really boosted his confidence and he is pretty much swimming by himself now. i put allison in the class above mom and tot and although she loves the water she is not so fond of strangers. she was the youngest in her class so the activities were geared toward the older kids...there were kids logan's age in her class. i didn't think the teacher made much of an effort to include her and make her feel comfortable but when she was willing to participate she had fun.
the last day they give the kids popsicles. i thought this was a cute picture of the kids. allison is always willing to let others taste her food.

on the last day they also let the kids go down the slide. logan had no problem going down and loved it. allison had to go with the teacher and i think she liked it because she went down several times.
